Peshtigo Lions Club
Biography
The Peshtigo Lions Club is a very active community-based volunteer organization which raises money and donates it back to the community. Some of our major fund-raisers include a food truck during the Walleye Run on the Peshtigo River each April, and Peshtigo Historical Days each September. We give out two $1,000 scholarships each year to graduating senior from Peshtigo. We volunteer to cook and serve food for the Peshtigo Recreation Department; recognition for veterans- first responders- health care personnel- and law enforcement and fire personnel, National Night Out, and a Fire Department fund-raiser. We have cooked and served for local businesses for their annual employee recognition or to celebrate their milestones and longevity in the community. Further community donations include; Abundant Life Mission, CASA of Marinette County, The Emergency Rescue Squad, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin (we have two trained eye donation transporters), Peshtigo Food Pantry (We pick up food weekly from Crivitz and monthly from Amberg and deliver to this pantry), Vison screening in area elementary schools, Peshtigo SEED program (students eat every day), Peshtigo Kids Closet, Rainbow House, Special Olympics, The Salvation Army (We assist them with Feeding America food distribution six times a year, and we ring the bell at Lofaro’s in Peshtigo during the Holiday season). We have a committee that volunteers to fix items. To date they have repaired a washing machine for a single parent, repaired a floor scrubber for a local school, cleaned and repaired 3-D printers for the Peshtigo School system, helped the Peshtigo Library renovation by picking up and assembling bookshelves and a large conference table. We support a pond on the east of Peshtigo which we call the Lions Club Recreation area by stocking the pond with fish each year, constructed a handicapped fishing deck, and placed picnic tables and benches at the pond during fishing season.
